com: Hotaru to the rescue

I've had this commission for ages. commissioned by the lovely, epic and super awesome

She decided she wanted me to draw our characters Xai the raccoon and Shida the umbreon being attacked by a snake and her other character Hotaru the ninja-secret agent dog... whatever she is xD

and i just realised i didn't upload that here on DA, so THAT'S why it's gotten no attention XD
anyway she said she didnt like it and wanted me to do it, which i was a little upset about at first cus i kinda liked it and just finished it at the time.
but i'm glad she did now cus i love how this one turned out.

The snake is my favourite breed, the mangrove snake, somewhat unnoticed for some reason. i think it looks epic. but really hard to draw though. i've wanted a mangrove snake character for ages. i was also tempted to give the snake a neckscarf or something XD but i forgot.
if i do make it a reccuring character then i will. i havnt given any of my snakes an accessory yet.

Anyway here we have a mangrove snake trying to hypnotize me and shida out in the forest somewhere so it can eat us, and is already begining to wrap it's tail around us. i'm trying to shield shida but that doesn't go too well. luckily for us though, we have some reliable backup :3
so it's hotaru-chan to the rescue.

i enjoyed drawing hotaru this time (as opposed to the horrible attempt at her i did per request ages ago). i remembered her metal arm after drawing her (and shida didn't comment on it then so i assume it was okay) and i think i did a good job of colouring it to make it look like a robotic arm.
origonally the one of her pouncing took up the whole pannel under the one of xai and sheeda being mesmarized, but shida suggested i do a pannel with hotaru's point of view from the spygear she wears, showing like a "target locked" kind of screen. im gad i did it cus it was wasted space anyway, i still got a nice pic of hotaru pouncing anyway and managed to make the most of the space. and i liked how it turned out too. lots of technical looking computer-y stuff.
and i noticed i had some space at the top of the second pannel (of xai and shida) so used it to put my signature in instead of at the top right which i think i would have otherwise because there is a wide empty space where i probably would have gone for first.

overall i liked how it came out. i put some extra time to put shading in when i didnt feel like it origonally because this has been a very tricky image. but im really glad i did.
i MIGHT experiment with tone and atmosphere lighting effects so if i do i'll maybe upload an edit.

the snake belongs to no one yet unless i decide to make it into a character.
it didnt look that good on paper but it looks better now i coloured it.
