This was actually meant to be inspired by the view from my window at twilight wit hthe silhouettes of the trees and stuff a pitch black against that fade of blues and turquoise. under all that over-dramatized colour and flashiness was the basic sky colour and I got it pretty accurate but yeah I wanted it to be pretty so I kinda went overboard lol.
IT was a nice image in my head though and it came out well enough so I can't complain.

Decided I might as well post this on new years since it has a very "looking out to the future" look.

the original title was "To the future" but I thought it made it sound like some kind of sci-fi thing with the sword some kind of futuristic technology instead of a magical weapon. so I changed it.

Anyway happy new years all.

This... is so awesome!

Silhouettes can be such a fun and interesting style/form to utilize; in some cases one can generate more impact from the darkness of the near environment and figures compared to illustrating them normally.  In this case, it establishes a sense of unknown, in regards to what lies ahead for the figure but also what the figure and the environment looks like to us.  All we know is that he has a magical weapon of some sort - the glow being the only source of coloured light in the silhouette emphasizing that.

The background compliments the front quite nicely - just marvelous work with it overall!  The Northern Lights effect with the turquoises and bit of red/orange is really cool looking, and the stars have a busy but randomly spaced out visual similar to what they have in real life.

You don't have to answer this if you wish to hold on to your secret techniques; I'm curious: for something like this, did you draw out the character and environment in detail before say deciding to do it in silhouette?  Or did you draw only what you needed to in order to work with that effect?
